Shalom, the Hebrew greeting, is also the word for peace. Shalom is etched on this glass scroll pin in the Hebrew script from the time of the Judges, about 7th century B.C.E.
Three similar alphabets, Hebrew, Phoenician, and Aramaic, developed at about the same time and became the prototypes for all alphabets of both East and West. Craftsmen in ancient Israel created fine glassware which over the centuries turned a deep, iridescent blue.
