Gregory Kohelet was born in Tashkent in 1954. On his journeys with his father, the sculptor in the wild landscapes of Tashkent, he learned the meanings of composition, color and expression from the source. When he grew up, he studied at the Academy of Art in Tashkent with the best teachers. The cultural influences that he imbibed unite East and West, Chinese and Japanese art on one hand and classical European art on the other, but he was drawn to Jerusalem. In 1990 he made Aliyah to Israel and settled in Jerusalem. In the Holy City he found 'true light and inspiration'. Kohelet's works were exhibited in the former Soviet Union, in Israel, Europe and the United States. There is a naive optimistic aspect to his paintings that is permeated with spirituality and light. Their rhythm and vitality are captivating. Even the houses of Jerusalem appear to be dancing. Daniel, the artist's young son, appears in many of his paintings and he is also the model for the painting 'Walking on a tightrope'.
