From the Hill to the Mount: A Reform Zionist Quest is the story of Richard G. Hirsch. From the political halls of Capitol Hill to the spiritual heights of Mount Zion, this is the significant account of a man, a vision, a message, and the movement he shaped.
As the Founding Director of the Reform movement's Religious Action Center in Washington, DC, Rabbi Hirsch championed civil and human rights. He marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma, Alabama, fought to free Soviet Jewry, and established Jerusalem as the world center of the World Union for Progressive Judaism. Rabbi Hirsch's extraordinary life accomplishments, values, and social activism are representative of the Progressive Judaism he has worked hard to implant around the world.
Rabbi Richard G. Hirsch was born in 16 in Cleveland, Ohio, and ordained in 1951 from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. After heading the World Union for Progressive Judaism in Jerusalem for more than a quarter century, he was elected its Honorary Life President. Hirsch is the Co-Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel's Commission on the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, and is a member of the Executive of the Jewish Agency and the World Zionist Organization.
