Your spirit will soar and you will have a Happy Hanukkah as you light this gorgeous Hanukkah Menorah during the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. The classical shape – four arms on each side of the central column – is executed in perfectly smooth shiny sterling silver. The understated decoration of vertical lines placed in only three locations serves to highlight the magnificence and height of this amazing Hanukkia.
The square base of the Menorah rests atop tiny delicately carved small sterling silver legs. With a series of four gradually narrowing shiny sterling silver steps, the base tapers into the central column of the menorah. Each of the four sides of the column is surrounded by a recessed band, this way creating more facets for light reflection on the smooth silver. The wider part of the column is topped by a narrow frieze with delicate vertical etching. This frieze is narrower on the top, flowing into a step which further narrows the column. This step is topped by a smaller square, which then narrows again, holding a base for another frieze – this one opening and expanding towards the middle part of the column. This middle part is shaped like an elongated squared column, where each side of the column is again surrounded by the same recessed band as on the bottom. This middle part is topped by another narrow vertically etched frieze, with rounded decorations on each corner, making it look like the top of an ancient carved stone column. This column is then continued by what looks like four joints, each of which hold 2 arms of the Hanukkia going right and left. Each joint is narrower than the one below it, and each is surrounded by the recessed bands.
The arms of the Hanukkia curve upwards in perfectly smooth and symmetrical sterling silver, and are topped by shiny sterling silver oil cups, each decorated on its widest part by the same vertical etching as on the column itself.
The eight oil cups are set in one row, to allow one to light the Hanukkah candles for all 8 days of Chanukah according to the most stringent customs. The ninth cup is set both higher than the other candles, and away from them. This is because it specifically used for the "Shamash" (caretaker or servant in Hebrew) – the candle used to light all the other candles with during the ceremony of the Menorah lighting.
It is possible of course to light Hanukkah candles in this silver Menorah with either oil candles or wax candles.
This menorah is a prime example of traditional Judaica, made with modern and precise methods by Hadad Bros. of Israel. It could be an amazing gift, or take a place of honor within your sterling silver collection.
This Menorah is 60 cm tall / 23.6 inch
