Light your Hanukkah candles in style with this classically shaped Sterling silver Menorah. The light from the candles will be reflected from the back wall of this Hanukkia made by Hadad Bros. of Israel, which weighs 235 grams.
The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah is the festival of lights. And what better way to light your Hanukkah candles than by lighting this magnificent Hanukkia (Hanukkah Menorah) by Hadad. Bros.
It is customary to light one candle on the first night of Chanukah, increasing by one candle each night, until on the eighth day all eight candles are lit. This Menorah, as are all the other ones by Hadad Bros., enables you to light each one of the candles with oil and wicks. Of course, it is possible to use wax candles as well. According to some Jewish customs, it is preferrable that the eight Hanukkah candles are set in a straight row. Another candle base will appear on most of the Menorahs at a different location or height. The purpose of this ninth base is to hold the candle which is used to light all other eight candles. It is therefore called the "Shamash" – i.e. the "helper" or "servant".
This Hanukkia is classically shaped with a back wall, which reflects all the light turned towards the room where you are lighting it. The rectangular base stands on four sterling silver legs. The bottom of the base is surrounded by a delicate filigree design, topped by a smooth shiny silver band. The base is completed by a smooth silver surface, which supports the eight candle holders for the eight days of Hanukka – also executed in smooth silver. Each one of the holders is shaped in a smooth jug shape.
Behind the base, the back wall of this small, intricately designed Hanukkah Menorah is a treasure of its own. The back is framed by two smooth silver bands, with an etched line of silver dots between them. The frame serves to highlight the perfectly etched flower and leaf design, surrounded by a surface with tiny hammered dots. The entire back is topped by an ornately carved crown which is connected to the frame by an etched design reflecting the leaves on the back itself. The 9th candle, or Shamash, is attached above all the others, at the side of the base, with a scrolled arm. It is also shaped in the same smooth jug shape.
It will indeed by a happy Hanukkah when you use or give this beautiful example of silver Judaica for saying the Hanukkah blessings and lighting the Chanukah candles.
This Menorah measures 6.3" x 5.5" (16 cm x 14cm).
It weighs 235 gram.
