The Jewish festival of Hanukkah (also spelled Hannukah, and pronounced Chanukah in Hebrew) boasts of many symbols and traditions, making it a highlight on the Jewish holiday calendar. The dreidel (top), potato latkes (pancakes), sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts) and Hanukkah gifts all feature prominently during the eight days and nights.

However, the most recognizable symbol of Hanukkah is the Hanukkah menorah (also spelled menora, and known as a Hanukkiah, or Chanukkiah in Hebrew). On the first night of Hanukkah one candle is lit, and on each following night one candle is added, until on the eighth and final night all eight Hanukkah candles shine together in harmony. On each night an additional candle, the ‘shamash’ (Hebrew for servant, or helper) is used to light the other candles and is then displayed alongside them. Many families decide to beautify this ancient custom by using gorgeous menorahs, adding a classy touch to this glorious tradition.

Israeli artisan and sculptor Dan Shamir of Joy Art, a top producer of modern artistic Judaica (practical Jewish ceremonial art), has crafted a remarkable menorah that vividly depicts daily life in Israel. A metal menorah is laser-cut using the latest technology, fashioning a unique shape. The menorah is then silk-screen printed in the colorful design of an apartment building, depicting people involved in daily activities in their apartments. Candle holders for the Hanukkah candles are placed along the roof. Screen-printing, a technique which originated in ancient China, is now a common technique of printing patterns onto surfaces that allow for attention to intricate detail and sharp images. It is used to remarkable effect in this dazzling piece of Israeli modern Judaica and Israeli art. Words cannot do justice to this colorful picture of Israeli life; it simply has to be seen to be believed

Both functional and artistically pleasing, this unique Hanukkah menorah is a gift to any collector of beautiful Judaica, as well as a great Hanukkah gift, Bar/Bat mitzvah gift, anniversary gift or engagement gift. Measures 35 x 32 x 9.5 cm, (14 x 12.8  x 4.3 inch).
