A vibrantly colored, avant garde painted Mezuzah, featuring the distinct artwork and craftsmanship of the Judaica designer and artist, Yair Emanuel. Made of wood and decorated with a variety of scenes inspired by Medieval-era Jewish art, this Mezuzah is a unique and beautiful addition to the sacred Jewish home. It’s perfect for enthusiasts of historical artwork and Judaism's presence throughout the history of the world.
The “bird’s head” figures depicted in this painting are inspired by artwork from one of the first known Ashkenazic Jewish illumenated manuscripts: a Passover Hagadah from the 12th century, dubbed the “Bird’s Head Hagadah”. It is theorized that in the olden days, Jewish people believed that drawing human faces was related to the prohibition against creating idols (graven images), and so all depictions of people in this manuscript featured bird’s heads or distorted facial features.
