The Hebrew word mezuzah actually implies doorpost and denotes the Torah verses from shema, and other verses (Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21). These verses starting with the expression: "Listen, Israel that the Lord is our God, the Hashen hu Ehad. Today we normally decorate the mezuzah with an enriching case that is attached to the doorframe to satisfy the Biblical precept to record the expressions of the Shema "on the doorposts of your home" (Deuteronomy 6:9). The material is composed by a qualified copyist. The Mezuzah is composed in dark ink with a plume pen.
