Color: Blue and white
Decorated with a foliate design in deep blue. This Passover plate is based on an original
from Delft, Holland from the 18th century. The Hebrew word \'Pesach\' (Passover) is
written in large black letters in the center of the plate, indicating its use for the week long holiday.
At the beginning of the 17th century, the Dutch East India Company imported large
quantities of Chinese Porcelain revolutionizing the pottery industry. Kitchen utensils,
decorative tiles and other objects were decorated with blue-and-white glazes in the
Chinese style. The Dutch city of Delft was the European Center for the manufacturer of
these Chinese imitation ceramic wares until the mid-18th century.
