Israeli wine critic Daniel Rogov calls the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 from Ben Haim Winery 'medium to full-bodied... round and well-balanced.'
Writing in his Guide to Israeli Wines 2010, Rogov describes this boutique wine as 'showing dark royal purple toward garnet… with generous soft tannins and abundant spicy and dusty oak. On the nose and palate blackcurrants, berries, and plums, with light herbal and green olive overtones.
Ready to be drunk now, this boutique wine can be cellared through 2011. Rogov score: 88 ('highly recommended').
Ben Haim Winery, founded in 1997 on Moshav Kfar Azar in the Sharon region, is a family-owned winery that currently produces about 35,000 bottles annually from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Petite Sirah and Muscat grapes that are largely grown in its own vineyards.
Vineyards with Shiraz and Traminette are under development, and a Port-style wine is also produced by the winery. Our vineyards are planted on the eastern slopes of Mount Meron in the Upper Galilee. The winery plans to expand its production to 50,000 bottles.
Wines are released in three series - Reserve, Grande Reserve and Tradition - and since the 2001 vintage, have been kosher.
