The lily in these jewelry pieces, part of the design of the modern-day
shekel, appeared on coins minted by Jews in Jerusalem in the year 350 BCE.
It appeared still earlier in fields from the Davidic Kingdom.
The lily was also used as an ornamental motif in the Temple in Jerusalem, decorating the branches of the menorah and the capitals of the two main pillars, Yakhin and Boaz.
A common Jewish symbol up to the destruction of the Second Temple, the trefoil (fleur-de-lis) was later adopted by Christianity as an allusion to
the Trinity, and by Islam as a decorative motif.
