The lighting of the Hanukkah candles has long been one of the most cherished moments of the Jewish year. The Jewish festival of Hanukkah (also spelled Hannuka and pronounced Chanukkah in Hebrew) offers many symbols – the dreidel (top), potato latkes (pancakes), Hanukkah gifts and jelly doughnuts, but
without a doubt the most recognizable and prominent is the Hanukkah menorah (also spelled menora and known as a Hanukkiah, or Chanukkiah in Hebrew).
On each of the festival’s eight nights the entire family gathers around to light the Hanukkah candles and sing Hanukkah songs. On the first night one candle is lit, and on each subsequent night another candle is added, until on the eighth and final night eight candles shine together in a pleasant glow of harmony. On each night, an additional candle named the “shamash” (helper) is used to light the other candles, and is then displayed alongside them.
World-renown Israeli artisan, designer and painter Yair Emanuel has crafted this menorah, a masterpiece that is sure to lend a touch of class and beauty to this age-old tradition. Made of metal, this menorah was laser-cut in the classical shape of the menorah that was used in the ancient Jewish tabernacle and the Jewish temple, the “Bet HaMikdash”, with the only difference being the number of candles the menorah can hold.
A long, primary “branch” rises from a rectangular base, with four branches coming out from each side of the primary branch, to make a total of nine branches. Each branch contains a hole at its end, meant to house a candle. Using advanced laser metal-cutting technology, the shapes of birds, leaves, pomegranates and flowers are also cut out, attached to the branches. The leaves, birds, pomegranates and flowers are then hand-painted, creating the splashy, colorful look of a pomegranate tree, a common theme in Emanuel’s work. The main body of the menorah is painted blue. The menorah is covered in three layers of lacquer, ensuring full functionality as well as enabling hand-cleaning.
This stunning menorah is the perfect Hanukkah gift, as well as a great Bar/Bat mitzvah gift, engagement gift or anniversary gift. Order today, and ensure that the lucky recipient has a very happy Hanukkah.
