The Hebrew word "Kiddush" translates to sanctification in English, and refers to the blessing that is recited over the wine or grape juice before beginning the weekly Shabbat meal on Friday evenings. The Kiddush can also be recited the follow morning and afternoon of Shabbat, and for certain Jewish holidays as well. The Kiddush begins with the reciting of the blessing, and is followed by each participant taking turns drinking from the cup.
