The Mezuzah, is a parchment scroll, hand written by a dedicated and holy scribe and it is encased in a cover which is then hung on the doorpost of the home and rooms in the house. Written on the parchment are the first two verses of the Shema from Deuteronomy, which shows our dedication and love for God. It is a daily reminder of who we are and our connection to God. To be kosher, the Mezuzah has to be handwritten and not typed or mechanical and the parchment must come from a kosher cow and every letter must be written clearly. .The parchment is rolled and not flat thus making it easy to fit into the case. To hang, place it on the right hand door post. Ashkenazi custom is to hang it at an angle and Sephardi custom to hang it straight.
