The first sleeve depicts a stunning gold Star/Shield of David, known in Hebrew as the Magen David. The other beautifully textured sleeve depicts a charming gold olive branch, representing one of the Land of Israel’s seven produce species (the shivah minim).
Shofarot come in all shapes and sizes, but they have two things in common: the judaica pieces are made from the horn of a kosher animal, and are used during the prayer services of Rosh Hashana. While ram horns are commonly used to this day to make shofarot, Yemenite shofars are particularly exotic; they are made from the horns of the African kudu.
