Yehezkel, Cabi's uncle, who is a leader in the underground, was arrested and disappeared after he wrote an article in his newspaper against the government following the hanging of a Jewish merchant in the city of Basra. Cabi takes it upon himself to find out where he is. Cabi's Girlfriend is also active in the underground. 15-year-old Amira, a gifted student and the Cabi's first love hides her zionist activities from her father, one of the notables of the community until the sudden escape to Israel. Cabi eventually discovers the whereabouts of Yehezkel with help from Carim, a Muslim lawyer and family friend. While languishing in prison Yehezkel, his hope to release fades while Rachel finds a new love, a fact that frustrates Cabi, because he wanted her secretly. Following a special envoy from Israel and the consent of the Iraqi government to allow Jews to leave, many of the Jews leave Iraq. After a difficult event lurching community, there was no longer a Jew throughout Iraq who did not agree to leave. Rachel stays behind alone.
