Shtisel 2013 is an Israeli TV series full of lovely entertaining drama and conflict and love and moral questions and romance and tragedy (in no particular order), as well as a quick peek into Israeli Jewish-ultra-orthodox (Haredi) culture. It's a good watch and a good show, well made and well acted, definitely not a waste of time because it's a worthwhile choice of TV to watch. The plot is about a young man, Akiva Shtisel, a schoolteacher who has lost his mother with whom he was very close, who falls in love with a woman his father does not approve of- a widow twice over with a son. The show depicts the emotions entwined in this romance, the perspective of all of the parties involved, and the intricacies and preferences of the culture it is set in. It has a whole web of intricate and detailed characters, with back stories and a reality to them that is very special.
It's a finely woven tale and a pleasure to watch, a credit to Israeli cinema. Alon Zingman has truly created a masterpiece. This show has been highly praised and prized by many, with 11 academy awards for theater and television, it's a terrific show.
